The Senate Banking and Insurance Committee will begin its tough work this coming week with debate on two ... bills... how to entice the insurance industry to pay for treatment and maintenance of autistic residents:
Autism: The care of autistics annually costs tens of thousands of dollars, but insurance companies decline to pay for treatment. The cost is, of course, very difficult for most South Carolina families to meet, even though some autism treatment and facilities have aided families in getting help for their children. The committee's aim is to find ways of assuring that treatment at the lowest family cost possible, and a bill would force insurance companies to pay for the treatment. |
